I read that Turkey's asked the US for help in extracting the wreck of our downed Phantom RF-4E. How come we don't have the capability to do it ourselves? I mean, as far as know, the wreck is only at a debt of about 1200 meters.

The closest thing we have is the TCG Cesme (also bought from the US) which is a research vessel.

Maybe we are not able to go that deep.

We should. We should at least be able to do wreck extraction in the seas surrounding Turkey. Otherwise we shouldn't call ourselves a "regional power"!!!!

We are building a MOSHIP(submarine rescue mother ship) and 2 RATSHIPS(rescue & towing ships).
That should be enough.

You make it sound so easy, I would suggest you hop on a boat and do it yourself, show them how it's done!

Currently The US Nautilus explorer, famous for locating the wreckage of the Titanic in 1985, set sail on Friday to the eastern Mediterranean to join search and rescue mission for the missing pilots.

On the other hand MoShip & RATShip are underway and to be completed in 2015.

That's true, it's easier said than done. Remember Russia's Kursk nuclear submarine that went down in the Barents Sea as recently as 2000? Russia, with all of its might and power, couldn't get it out from a debth of only 108 meters and appealed for international assistance.

"The United States offered the use of one of its two Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles, as did the British government, but all offers were refused by the Russian government. Four days after the accident on 16 August 2000, the Russian government accepted the British and Norwegian governments' assistance and a rescue ship was dispatched from Norway on 17 August and reached the site on 19 August. British and Norwegian deep-sea divers reached the ninth compartment escape hatch on Sunday, 20 August. They were able to determine that the compartment was flooded, and all hope of finding survivors was lost."
